Meaning

Affection. The Heart is love in its broad sense — romantic attachment, warmth, care, the emotional dimension of any matter. It is the card that tells you feeling is involved, without specifying what kind of relationship holds it.

It also stands for generosity and kindness, and for the emotional truth underneath a situation's practical surface.

The tone is warm and open. The Heart is largely uncomplicated, and most of its difficulty comes from neighbours rather than from itself.

Beside other cards

Often the subject in relationship questions. As a modifier it makes its neighbour emotional or beloved — Heart + Letter is a message with feeling in it, Heart + Fox is affection being used. Read alongside the Ring for the useful distinction between feeling and commitment, which are not the same and do not always travel together.
