Letter

Meaning

Written communication, and the document itself. The Letter is anything on paper or screen — messages, emails, contracts, results, paperwork, records. Where the Rider is the arrival of news, the Letter is the news in written form.

It also stands for the formal or recorded quality of a matter: something set down, and therefore something that can be referred back to.

The tone is neutral. The Letter is a container, and its contents come from the cards around it.

Beside other cards

Almost always the modifier, making its neighbour written or documented. Letter + Ring is a written contract. Letter + Coffin is a formal termination. Distinguish carefully from the Birds, which is speech, and the Rider, which is arrival rather than content.
