Woman

Meaning

A woman in the querent's situation, or the querent herself. The Woman is the deck's principal significator for an adult female, and in a reading for a woman it typically stands for the querent.

Like the Man, it has no character of its own. It marks a person's presence in the reading and waits for the neighbours to describe her.

The tone is entirely neutral. It is worth saying plainly that the tradition sometimes attaches unflattering assumptions to this card via the Snake; those readings are cultural residue rather than card meaning, and they can be left behind without loss.

Beside other cards

Almost always the subject. The neighbours describe her: Woman + Heart is a woman who cares, Woman + Mountain is a woman who is blocked or distant. In readings involving both significators, the distance between Man and Woman is often more informative than either card alone.
