Child

Child — Lenormand card illustration

Meaning

Something new, small, and inexperienced. The Child is a beginning — a fresh start, an early stage, something at the outset of its life. It also carries innocence and naivety, and by extension the smallness or newness of whatever it touches.

Literally it can mean a child, a pregnancy, or a young person, though the card should not be read as pregnancy on its own without clear support.

The tone is fresh and gentle, and mostly light, though the naivety can cut both ways — a Child is trusting, and trust is not always returned.

Beside other cards

Usually the modifier. It makes its neighbour new, small, or immature — Child + Ring is a young commitment, Child + Fox is trust extended before the ground is known. It shrinks whatever it modifies, which can be a relief beside heavy cards and a limitation beside good ones.
